M&K Sound Reborn

January 24, 2008 by Michael Curry

Loudspeaker manufacturer M&K has been resurrected from extinction through an acquisition from its distributors. Longtime M&K distributors Per Becher and Asger Bak acquired all of M&K’s intellectual property (brand name, trademarks, websites, etc.) back in July. As of October 1st M&K’s U.S. operations have been taken over by seven year M&K veteran Chris Minto, who is acting VP and managing director.

Chris’s mission at the new M&K is to keep “classic M&K products that our customers know and love,” while replacing those “products that are not up to our highest standards.” Chris goes on to say the new M&K has “a tremendous crew of talented people whose energy and passion is focused on the art and science of high quality sound reproduction.”

Great news! It's good to read that M&K got saved by an acquisition, and that the acquisition was by someone who genuinely knows and cares about the company.

Wow. I didn't expect this at all, but it sure makes me happy. I've owned 3 of their subs and have always loved MK, so I can't wait to see what they have in store for the future. They kept their chief design engineer and a lot of other family so hopefully they'll adhere to the same standards they used to live by. Maybe they'll have a nice sale on all their "products that are not up to [their] highest standards"? =P

I wonder why they are using mksoundusa.com now though instead of the regular mksound.

Along with all your great push-pull subs (I have three at present), please continue to produce the little 8 inch single driver last known as the KX-10 with both line level and speaker level crossovers. It was small and versatile and could be used in ways no other sub on the market can. I am a professional designer and I used to use them in singles or pairs on less demanding jobs with great success. Also please bring back the MX-70B. I am currently using two S1C's on top of two MX-70's,one 100B, an additional MX-70, and a pair of Bookshelf 75"s. All still sound great.
