Styling of NAD components typically ranges from very conservative to ultra conservative, so the bold and elegant shapes of their new VISIO FIVE and VISIO TWO integrated DVD receivers comes as a bit of a surprise. The VISIO FIVE plays and upscales DVDs to 720p/1080i, and unusually for a DVD receiver, DVD-A playback is supported as well. The VISIO FIVE is also a full-fledged surround receiver, featuring high-resolution Crystal A-to-D and D-to-A converters, a 5 X 40 watt amplifier with discrete output stages, and a preamp output for a subwoofer. Dolby Virtual Speaker technology is onboard for virtual surround from two speakers, while Dolby Pro-Logic II, 5 Channel Stereo, and NAD’s proprietary Enhanced Ambience Retrieval System (EARS) modes can all be used to enhance stereo sources for surround playback.

A full complement of inputs and outputs are provided, including inputs for three additional video sources, a six-channel analog input, optical and coaxial digital inputs, composite, S-video, component, and HDMI video outputs, and a digital output. Connection ports also allow for optional XM radio an iPod dock modules, and an RS-232 port can be used with home automation systems. The VISIO FIVE will be available in February, priced at $1,799. The VISIO TWO has all of the same features as the FIVE, just with two channels of onboard amplification rather than five. It will be available in March, priced at $1,299.
