Infinity has announced a new range of affordable speakers called the Classia Series, which borrow styling cues from their high end Cascade range. The C205 two-way bookshelf ($329/ea) uses a 1" tweeter and a 5.25" woofer. The CC225 two-way wall-mountable center channel ($499/ea) uses a 1" tweeter and dual 5.25" woofers in a horizontal M-T-M configuration. The C255ES two-way wall mountable surround ($499/ea) features selectable monopole/bipole/dipole/dual speaker operation, and uses dual 1" tweeters and dual 5.25" woofers. The C336 three-way floorstander ($899/ea) completes the new range. It uses a 1" tweeter, a 4" midrange, and three 6.5" woofers, and has two sets of binding posts for bi-wire capability.

All drivers in the Classia range are made with Infinity's patented Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm (CMMD) technology, for higher accuracy and less distortion than earlier Infinity designs. The CMMD tweeters operate in a Constant Acoustic Impedance (CAI) waveguide for more detailed high frequency reproduction, optimal dispersion, and response up to 40kHz. The Classia Series speakers will be available in high-gloss black or cherry-wood finishes with black cloth grilles.

Oh Infinity, what will they try to do next...

What baffles me is that every year they have similar speakers to these and don't market them at all. Most people don't even know they have any other lines besides car audio.

Back in the pre H/K days when the Genesis designers were still at Infinity, they made VERY expensive stuff. The Genesis 1.1 lineage dates back to the Infinity Reference Standard and its various ilk. More recently they've done the Overture series and the Prelude series which were both fairly expensive (though nothing like the IRS), but Infinity doesn't seem to have any interest in that kind of thing anymore. Now they are basically the brand slightly above JBL at Circuit City. Revel speakers are getting more affordable, so Infinity has to be pretty downmarket to avoid overlap.
