Decware has released a new battery powered portable headphone amplifier called the ZenHead, designed to allow high end headphones with high impedances to be used with portable mp3 players. The ZenHead works for up to 50 hours, and is powered by a single 9V alkaline battery. Decware claims that eliminating the recharging circuit and using alkaline over Ni-MH provides superior sound quality. The ZenHead features an all aluminum enclosure, a "top grade" circuit board, precision resistors, Polypropelene film caps, and Burr Brown OPA2132 Op Amps and BUF634P buffers. Built in crossfeed and impedance adjustments from 10 to 600 Ohms allow the Zenhead to accommodate pretty much any pair of headphones. The ZenHead is priced at $395 and available through the Decware online store.
