Incriminator Audio FL Subwoofers - Stepping Into the Low Distortion Crowd

Incriminator Audio has long been known for their excellent and durable
products, which have seen heavy use in the SPL competition circuit; most
notably in Tommy "The King of Bass" McKinnie's truck and Scottie Johnson's van. Nick Wright at IA is now reaching into the SQ circuit as well with the new FL series of drivers.

The FL series will initially be available in 12" and 15" sizes with 18"
and 21" available in the future if there is demand for it. The backbone
of the FL series is the motor, which uses the underhung topology. The
advantages of this are low inductance (wide bandwidth) and linear BL
(low distortion). The FL has a published 18mm of linear throw, although
the simulations done by IA show that BL(x) is near constant out to
8-10mm in the forward and rearward direction. The use of dual
progressive spiders helps keep the driver in check, while the lower
power handling of the smaller underhung coil is offset by IA's
Air-Driven Cooling approach, where the goal is to draw air across the
top plate and down into the windings. As demonstrated by Dr. Wolfgang
Klippel, this is often a preferred method of cooling rather than the
conventional use of a pole vent. The motor uses a different (and
attractive) method of plating the top and back plates: black nickel.

Currently, Thiele/Small parameters are only available for the 12" driver
and can be found below. The FL series should be available next Monday
at $319 shipped direct from IA.
