SawStop Contractor Saw Saves Fingers

April 19, 2008 by Lukas Gilkey

SawStop has announced a new affordable version of their famous finger saving table saw. The new Contractor Saw with 10" blade retails for $1,500 and will be available for purchase in June.

The SawStop Contractor saw is still a bit more than your run of the mill table saw, but is great to see this technology becoming more affordable. Smaller shops and diy guys that build their own stuff can really benefit from this piece of equipment. The SawStop site has over 70 finger save testimonials so far, some with pictures of fingers that appear to have barely a nick like the one below.

Specs and a video link after the jump.

Specifications:
- 44" W X 27" D table top
- Weighs 245 lbs
- 30" rip capacity
- Left tilt

Standard with:
- 1.75 HP motor
- 40 tooth blade
- Miter gauge
- True riving knife
- Low-profile blade guard
- Innovative blade shroud enabling superior dust collection

FineWoodworking.com got their hands on a pre-release version of the table saw and created an excellent video of it. I'm sure everyone has seen the hotdog test by now, but the video goes into great detail on exactly how the blade brake system works and it shows off the other features of the table as well. You can see the video at the link below.
