Gene Simmons is a Complete Dick

June 23, 2008 by David Kay

Gene Simmons of KISS doesn't appreciate the recent decisions made by bands like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails to experiment with new forms of music distribution that don't involve traditional record labels. Not only does he not appreciate them, he feels they are contributing to the industry's decline.

Not content with the buckets of money he made from slapping the KISS brand name on just about every product under the sun, Simmons said: "The record industry is dead. It's six feet underground and unfortunately the fans have done this. They've decided to download and file share. There is no record industry around so we're going to wait until everybody settles down and becomes civilized. As soon as the record industry pops its head up we'll record new material."

He has also said that, "Every little college kid, every freshly-scrubbed little kid's face, should have been sued off the face of the earth." Apparently none of his record industry pals bothered to mention that he would never see any of the money gained from suing single moms, little kids and dead people. If Simmons is waiting for some mythical return to the glory days of the record industry, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes of torrents, Kazaa, and the MP3 itself, he's going to be waiting a long time.

Please go back to playing with your KISS dolls and comic books Mr. Simmons.

Gene Simmons knows (and cares) about only one thing: making money with the KISS brand. Too bad even the music they've done is awful....

What a d-bag...

That guy really annoys me. He's not cool, his music sucks and I seriously hope that things stay the way they are right now so that his crappy band doesn't produce any more music.

What a hack. It seems most artists (if you can call them that) from the 'golden days' or Rock and roll are complete smucks.

I dunno about the schmuck part, but there is certainly a large gap between that generation and more recent ones. The most vocal proponents of the DMCA and other stupid copyright laws are either old record label owners, old politicians getting money from lobbyists paid by old record label owners, or old musicians who haven't put out a good album in decades and need the royalties badly.

The reason people are downloading music isn't just because they don't want to pay...it's been demonstrated over and over again that people aren't afraid to pay for things they like. Unfortunately, the record labels function on completely archaic business models that make millions on the backs of those who actually have the talent...and it's now catching up to them.

Hey Gene...you know what doesn't sell records? Talking crap about a customer base that is the dominant share of all media sold, and will continue to be in years upcoming.

What a classless joke of a man...

His comments are as timely, informed and relevant as his music.

Except "God Of Thunder." That song friggin' rocks.

I think this AJ entry is way too biased, David Kay, I think you need to rethink the title of this entry...

His comments are laughably ignorant, and he is being a complete dick to his fans. "There is no record industry"? What? I hadn't heard that all of the labels have shut down. Gene Simmons' greed would make even Lars Ulrich blush.

The future of music is basically a tip jar system. For many bands that actually means more money in their pocket than their RIAA slave masters would otherwise pay them for CD sales. You can get on board with it, or you can have a tantrum and cry that you'll never record music again like Gene Simmons. The world of music will certainly survive without another KISS album.

I agree with Dave...
