AKG K702 Headphones

AKG has released a new version of their highly regarded K701 flagship, sensibly called the K702. The AKG K702 headphones sport a new Stage Blue finish also found on other recent AKG cans, which is claimed to be "tougher" than the K701's white finish. AKG's flat-wire voice coils and patented "Varimotion" two-layer diaphragm technology are carried over to the K702.

Also included are specially shaped "3D-form" ear pads, a leather headband, a detachable 3 meter cord terminated with a 1/4" phono jack, and a mini-jack adapter. Frequency response is rated at 10Hz - 39.8kHz, with 62 Ohm impedance. The K702 will be available in August.

$500 cans (I'm guessing on the price). While I appreciate the move to use a detachable cable, especially since it makes recabling even easier. That cord looks like the crap that came on my K271 Studio's, and it hasn't exactly held up too well. The outer casing has split in two places, one of them being right at the stress relief fitting at the headphones. Not to mention the broken conductors in one of the left channel wires. And no, before you ask, I have not abused them!

Come on AKG... you've got to put a better cable on these things (especially on the cans without removable cables).

wtf... what happened to the beginning of my comments? Bascially it should start:

While I'm sure the headphones will be nice, there's nothing like a POS cable on a pair of $500 cans...

Sorry about that, did you have a less than or greater than symbol in your post? The site cuts those and the text around them as a security feature.

I probably wrote greater than $500. Doh!
