The gorgeous and high performance EX-6.5 woofer from Exodus Audio is now available for individual purchase. The long-throw, XBL^2 mid was originally only available in the Kepler and Tycho Brahe speaker kits, but is now available at only $75 + shipping.

The EX-6.5 is a good solution for those looking for a high performance 6.5" driver, featuring good low frequency extension via 9mm of very linear Xmax, low distortion, and decent efficiency. The naturally smaller coil makes for decent high frequency extension and, when paired with the other soft parts and small-footprint neodymium motor, the 60 watt continuous power handling should serve as more than sufficient for most applications. The measured frequency response included in the EX-6.5 documentation doesn't show any serious frequency response problems and would likely be considered usable to 2 kHz or higher.




Next up is the DPL-15. If the name doesn't give it away, this is a 15" subwoofer specifically designed for dipole, infinite baffle, and large sealed applications. The combination of the low Fs and long throw (22mm Xmax) makes for great low frequency output and, when this is paired with the low inductance of the driver (via the XBL^2 approach and the use of copper and aluminum shorting rings in the motor), the DPL-15 is capable of solid, low distortion performance over a relatively wide bandwidth. Best of all, it is quite affordable at only $128 plus shipping.
