J&R is offering a pre-order on the Denon AVR-1909 for $499.99. I found this out from a thread over on AVS forum and couldn't pass it up, just too good of a deal. You need to call in for that price to 1(800)806-1115 and ask for Oscar, he'll take care of everything.

The AVR-1909 is Denon's newest receiver and is Blu-ray ready with decoding abilities for the following formats: Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD Master Audio. Power output is rated at 90 watts per channel (x7 channels) and there are ton of good features for the price including the newest Audyssey Dynamic Volume Control that controls the volume swings between tv shows and commercials.

Denon AVR-1909 Home Theater Receiver Features:
- Seven channel amplifier section
- Video section features extensive video source switching and up-conversion capability
- Faroudja DCDi video processing and up-conversion
- Three HD component video inputs and one HD component video output
- Audyssey MultEQ acoustic correction and optimization system
- Audyssey Dynamic Volume automatic volume-leveling system
- Audyssey Dynamic EQ to ensure rich bass and smooth tonal balance
- Three v1.3a HDMI inputs

They are still a couple weeks out from being shipped and you won't be charged until they do.

A lot of people have been waiting for these (myself included) and that is the best price currently. I think I remember reading that people were paying full retail at Best Buy Magnolias that have them in-stock.

I'm sure they will drop a bit from MSRP once released, but for now the $499 price is pretty good deal.

What is so good about it? Blue-Ray ready?

With all the features this bad boy packs, that's a killer deal. What's so good is the Audyssey EQ function, the power, the ease of setup (we've dealt with Onkyo, Yamaha, etc and the Denon's are the easiest to setup), and enough inputs and outputs to satisfy even the most component-happy individual.

Does it remember surround modes? The two things that really bugged me about my dad's old AVR-1804 is that it didn't remember surround modes, so you'd have to manually switch it every time, real pain in the ass. The other is that when you pressed the mute button, it would shut the amp off, rather than just setting the volume to zero, so when you'd press unmute, you'd have to wait 2-3 seconds for the protection circuits. I like that with my dad's new Onkyo 605, you can preset every source in both analog and digital for the surround mode you want it to use, very convenient as he uses 5ch stereo for everything.

Dave, I'm not sure about that. I canceled my pre-order on the AVR-1909. Amazon just dropped their price on the AVR-988 to $599 which is an even better deal (improved processing and better amplification).
