Car Audio and Electronics Magazine Finished?

Rumors are running rampant on DIYMA that the well established Car Audio & Electronics magazine has been shut down by their publisher from a lack of sales. The magazine is owned by publishing company Source Interlink Media and I've already sent them an email asking for a comment.

Currently their website is still up and running, and it appears they are still taking subscription orders.

*Edit: Mobile Electronics Magazine says they have a letter confirming it.

Sean from SoundDomain and myself both thought it was very weird that they only had a single camera man covering Spring Break Nationals, when the years prior they had whole crews of people there. I wasn't a huge fan of the magazine anyways, especially after they made asses of themselves doing a shoddy review of the Stereo Integrity Mag subwoofer.

They lost my respect when they had RF T1's scoring better than ID Maxes and DD 3500's years ago.

The main basis of that magazine was just flashy cars. Ok, that's fine. If that's the market you want, but the mini truck and show car magazines simply did a better job. Obviously, their review section blew, so it left them nothing.

If they go under, I don't feel much of a loss.

I still always browsed the magazines at the news stand... or when I worked for a car audio shop...

I used to buy them from the news stand a few times per year. However, this magazine has long gone the way of the dinosaurs. Like most mags, their reviews are a joke. Their tutorials are average. Their vehicle coverage ignores all but the mostly impractical elite. For me, I just need more science and less marketing.

bring back as&s!!

I'll miss getting this magazine in the mail. I do like the tutorials in the back of the mag. Nice addon they started to do in the last year or so.

I never read the mag, but we have had similar things happen to Car Audio mags in the UK.

I feel the problem, certainly within the UK, is a lack of advertising from the manufacturers. You constantly see ads for new mobile phones and other similarly priced electronics on TV but I have NEVER seen an advert for anything but portable sat navs on the TV. You can't expect there to be a demand for car audio products, and therefore a need for specialist magazines, if you don't create one.

One of the most successful car/car audio mags in the UK is Max Power, I used to read it (many years ago) for its product reviews and tech guides but now the focus is on T and A, shoddy subjective "reviews" and "Pink or Brown". Its time specialist magazines stopped focusing on the teenage market and started selling to those who aren't swayed by some bimbo in a bikini-although the odd bit of eye candy doesn't hurt;)

Wow, I thought they had gone out of business a long time ago. That's how sad it is. I remember 10-13 years ago they had some nice, thick issues with a lot of great photos. Then the Internet hit and their most recent issues look like pamphletes. Their reviews sucked big time and even the writing for feature cars was half-ass. This book didn't evolve, but even if it had, I don't think it could have stopped the power of the interwebz. So long CA&E, you were once king, never more.
