Richard Gray's Power Company has released their second system designed to connect directly to a home's AC panel, called the RGPC HouseGuard. Unlike the earlier PowerVault, which is a massive whole-house uninterruptable power supply costing up to $30,000, the HouseGaurd is simply designed to protect all electrical equipment used in the home from power surges and spikes.

The RGPC HouseGuard uses a new generation of patented high-quality Metal Oxide Varistors. Previous versions of varistors have had a bad reputation in the power protection industry because they typically can only withstand one or two surges before failing. Richard Gray claims that the new patented modules used in the HouseGuard can withstand a 130,000 amp surge (a full lightning blast) over 300 times before beginning to break down. The HouseGuard is available now, priced at $2,195.
