Soulution 740 CD Player
Filed under: Home Audio > CD Players
The end of the CD era may be nearing, but that hasn't stopped high-end Swiss manufacturer Soulution from releasing a new statement CD player which takes the humble redbook format to its absolute zenith. The 740's standard Soulution appearance (read: dull) belies its massive interior complexity, as well as its €29,500 price tag.
Three separate, filtered power supplies are contained within the power supply module, one for the analog circuitry, one for the digital circuitry, and one to drive the transport. The incoming digital signal is upsampled to 24-bit/352.8kHz by a special processor which uses Anagram "Sonic2" technology. The signal is then sent to the dual-mono Burr-Brown 1792 DACs, and then on to the Class A output stage. The 740 includes BNC and RCA coaxial, optical, and AES/EBU digital inputs and outputs, as well as a link to slave the DAC to an external clock. Harmonic distortion is rated below 0.0005%, with greater than 140dB signal-to-noise ratio. Perhaps the most impressive figure though is the claimed jitter of less than 1 pico second (essentially zero). Soulution has created what is quite possibly the perfect CD player, just in time for the end of the CD.
