Two of Britain's most respected hi-fi firms, Epos and Creek, have teamed up with Australia's AktiMate to produce the AktiMate Mini, a compact desktop speaker system designed for use primarily with iPods and other portable audio players. Both the 5.25" polypropylene woofer and 1" metal dome tweeter are licensed from Epos. Creek supplies the 2 x 40 watt Class A/B amplifier, which is driven by a high quality Toroidal transformer. AktiMate didn't skimp on any of the critical components, even the volume control is a high-end Burr-Brown PGA2311.

The AktiMate Mini features a top mounted universal iPod dock, a 3.5mm input jack for portable sources, and a pair of RCA inputs. RCA outputs are also provided for connecting a subwoofer or daisy-chaining a second pair of speakers, as are a composite video output for iPod video and a USB port for charging connected portable devices. Frequency response is rated at 50Hz - 22kHz (+/- 1.5dB). The AktiMate Mini system is available in high gloss black or white finish, priced at $699.
