Adcom GFA-555SE Amplifier

Adcom has recently completed a restructuring, and they plan to reassert themselves as a force in affordable audio/video electronics under new owners Quality Technology Electronics. Adcom has several new products that will roll-out in 2009 - one of the first being the new GFA-555SE amplifier. The Special Edition GFA-555 retains the classic looks of the original, while featuring lower distortion, better dynamic range, improved damping factor, and greater stability.

The GFA-555SE's circuitry has been upgraded to meet ETL/ETLc, FCC, LVD and CE/EMC requirements using UL approved FR-4 printed circuit boards. Power is rated at 200 watts into 8 ohms and 300 watts into 4 ohms, with 600 watts available in bridged mono mode. The GFA-555SE is priced at $1299.

I am sure its a great amp, but for that money i would want it to look a little better then a grey box with a massive power switch on it. so many possibilities for it without much additional cost. oooh well.

I think it's meant to appeal to the cult of GFA-555 fans, who would consider it blasphemy to change the styling. The other new Adcom components are much more modern and interesting looking.

I'm in love... one of the greatest amps ever made and they make it better.

I'm one of the purists who would throw a fit if they changed the old school look. I have a GFA-555II and it is my pride and joy. The lights dim in the room slightly when I turn it on, but that is one damn nice amplifier.
