KEF Concept Blade is Sexier than Muon
Filed under: Home Audio > Speakers > Floorstanding Speakers
KEF has released a new concept speaker design that is (in my opinion at least) even better looking than their Muon flagship. The scimitar shaped Concept Blade is not meant to be a production model, but rather like a concept car, more of a showcase of design and technological concepts that will appear in future KEF models.

In development as a "skunkworks" project for over three years, the Concept Blade is intended to take KEF's signature Uni-Q concentric driver to the next level - complete full range performance. The Concept Blade achieves this by surrounding a 10th generation Uni-Q array with four 10" side-firing woofers in a bi-polar array. The four bass drivers share the same combined acoustic center as the front-firing Uni-Q array, and combine with it to achieve what KEF describes as "Single Apparent Source", capable of behaving pistonically over 7-octaves without breakup.
The exotic carbon fiber/balsa wood enclosure and liquid crystal polymer midrange driver probably will not make it to a production model, but the rest of the design is very likely to appear in a future KEF Reference series product. A video about the Concept Blade is available on KEF's website.
