A Japanese company called Bifrostec has released a new compact speaker designed for use on the desktop, called the D'Egg. Bifrostec was founded by Dr Heitaro Nakajima and Takao Ihashi, who both spent several decades at Sony developing CD technology. The D'Egg speaker stands 8.7" tall, and uses a single 3.5" full-range driver designed for ultra wide dispersion.

An internal amplifier provides 30 watts of power, and the speakers are rated at 70Hz - 20kHz. The D'Egg comes in white or black versions ($1200), or a special translucent red Kagami Crystal glass version ($3550). I'll take eight.
