Audi Q7 Concept Uses 62 Speakers

The 19-speaker, 1400 watt Bang & Olufsen system in Audi's flagship A8 sedan is already one of the best factory sound system available, rivaled only by the top Burmester system in the Porsche Panamera and a few others. This hasn't stopped Audi from trying to reach new audio heights, as evidenced by a new Q7 concept developed with the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology.

The system created for the Q7 concept uses a total of 62 speakers - 57 mid and high frequency drivers and 5 subwoofers. The system is sort of the car audio equivalent of a line-source, with rows of drivers stuffed into the dashboard, roof pillars, and doors. Three trunk-mounted computers control response. There are no plans to put the system into production, but Audi will use the research to develop future systems.
