New Mono Block from Bryston

August 16, 2007 by JD Mattioli

Bryston recently introduced its latest power amplifier, the 28B SST. The 28B SST is a single channel amplifier capable of 1,000 watts of output. The main idea behind the design of the new mono block was that it would keep the same power curve at 1 watt as it does at 1000 watts, so that it would sound great on any speaker at any level. It could be said that the goal was achieved, with a total harmonic distortion of 0.001% (or lower) it could be hard to hear anything wrong with the output.

The inputs on the amp can either be balanced or line and the gain is selectable from 1 or 2 volts. New features include a micro controlled soft start and a new power switch. Like a typical Bryston unit, it comes with a 20-year full warranty and retails for $6995.
