OiNK Shut Down By British and Dutch Police

October 23, 2007 by Lukas Gilkey

It appears that OiNK is no longer. I just tried to visit the OiNK website and it is showing, "The website www.oink.cd has been set offline."

According to the BBC, British and Dutch police teamed up to shut down the notorious invite-only file sharing website. Multiple properties were raided as part of the investigation and a 24-year-old man was arrested in conjunction with the investigation early this morning. The man's employer, who is "a large multi-national company" was also raided along with his father's house. The servers were based in Amsterdam and they were seized last week.

The authorities are trying to play this off like OiNK was a pay site and that is why it was so bad, don't fall for it though because it wasn't. Claiming that it was a pay site will just make their case stronger and much easier to prosecute in the eyes of the law.

Next week there will be another website to take its place just as there has been since Napster was shut down in 2001.

Sad is an understatement. I'm a little nervous about what will come next because OiNK always seemed untouchable. And although some new site will come along eventually, there is no tracker I have ever come across that is like it in terms of not only content, but also features and coding.

RIP OiNK... :(
