Bongiovi Acoustics Tries to Solve The Mp3 Problem

As we’ve covered in “Managing Your Digital Media Part 1”, the problem with the Mp3 format as well as all other lossy compression formats is that you lose anywhere from a small to a significant amount of the musical information, depending on the format and compression rate used. In response to this issue, Bongiovi Acoustics has created the Digital Power Station processor (sounds more like a line conditioner than anything to do with Mp3's) which they claim can be custom-tuned to maximize the performance of any playback device, and “put back” most of the information lost by compression. This is done by scanning the program material in real time, and raising frequency levels to compensate for diminished frequency response, in an attempt to match the original master recording as closely as possible. The Digital Power Station processor is currently available in the Bongiovi Acoustics/JVC KD-S100 car audio system, and will be available in many other car and portable electronic devices in the near future.
