Pyglet Computerless CD Ripper

November 16, 2007 by David Kay

A four-member team from the University of Adelaide has created a prize winning device called the Pyglet, which is able to rip and transfer songs from a CD to a portable music player without requiring a computer. “Pyglet Enterprises” plans to have a prototype ready within the next few months, which would sell when finalized for roughly $150.

I see only a few snags. Just about everyone with a portable music player has access to a computer, and there are plenty of free ripping programs including Windows Media Player. There are already devices that can do this, and many portable media players are capable of encoding to mp3 themselves via their line-in jacks. Other than that, this sounds like just the solution that absolutely no one has been hungering for.
