Certainly an interesting driver that I would love to get my hands on. I know you want some, too, Lukas. ;)
I have always said that I will buy a Mag when it goes with a linear approach and that still holds true.
Stereo Integrity: Designing the Next Generation Mag (Part 2)

The owner of Stereo Integrity, Nick Lemons, provides us with an ongoing insight into his efforts to redesign and improve upon the ever popular Mag subwoofer.
The new Mag's are coming along nicely and the prototype is being assembled.
Lots of info and graphs after the jump.
You can see the FEA results on the new motor in the graph below, along with a graph of a very good overhung motor as a comparison.

The graph shows the new Mag's BL linearity over a portion of the drivers throw and varies less than 1% each way over 20mm of one-way stroke. A good overhung design can vary as little as 3% and can extend to 15% in some cases. We are going to use XBL^2 on the new Mag's and have defined a flat BL curve with the new motor. A flat, constant, BL curve allows T/S's to stay stable and minimizes compression throughout linear travel.
The cone that will be used on the new Mag is a paper cone that has a proprietary blend of paper fibers and adhesives that make the cone extremely strong and as resonance-free as possible. The cone can withstand over 150 lbs of weight with no voice coil former attached (a former adds strength). A variable density foam surround is being used to control non-linear movement and increase longevity over time. The voice coil leads are getting sewn on top of the spider so that lead slap won't be an issue, while spider integrity and strength are kept way up. Basically the entire suspension is going to be upgraded and improved to help give the new Mag the best performance possible.

I want one of everything. :)
I'm excited to see these and Nick has some plans to potentially make these VERY affordable.

And now you REALLY have my attention. =P

I can't say anything else and I have already said too much. You'll have to wait for Nick to make an official pricing announcement for any more details.

Nick has already announced that they will be going to direct sales again, which cuts out a lot of overhead, and when combined with others reasons that could allow him to lower costs, it should be good news for all.

Are those pictures of the basket, or are those pictures of the entire sub?
lukas 9 months and 4 days ago
I'm pretty sure that is the whole driver. The motor is inside the basket which allows for a 5.5" mounting depth.

Nice, I hadn't heard that. Thanks for the heads up.
