Tymphany, the parent company of ScanSpeak, Vifa and Peerless, has released their new flagship range of drivers, the ScanSpeak Illuminator series. The Illuminator range is said to be the culmination of many years research, and represents their pinnacle of cost-no-object audio transducer design. The initial offerings are 5.25” and 6.5” woofers, and .75” and 1” tweeters with additional sizes to follow. The Illuminator woofers feature patent pending “underhung” (short voice coil/long magnetic gap) neodymium ring motor designs, and will be available in multiple cone materials and finishes.

The Illuminator tweeters build on the foundation of ScanSpeak’s highly regarded "Revelator." They use high force factor neo ring motors and aluminum back chambers for greater heat dissipation and lower resonance. The tweeters will also be available in a variety of materials, including magnesium, titanium and beryllium. The drivers will be built at Tymphany’s factory in Denmark.

The basket/motor on the driver showing is sexy as hell. It's a shame that gets hidden when you mount them.

These are definitely very impressive drivers. It will be interesting to see how long it takes before they start showing up in speakers like Rockport and MAGICO.

Woa. Wow. The only thing I don't like is that trim ring. But seeing as how it has no affect on the sound I'll go back my "woa" and "wow." :)

I need to find out more about these motors. They say they have a patent pending on the approach using an underhung voice coil and a neo stack, but you can clearly see there is little similarity to NRT...that's a rather large top plate. I'm curious to see what they've got going on inside.

My thoughts also were along the lines of the NRT motors. They look awesome though.
