Actually, with all due respect to the legendary Norse god of thunder, Wilson Audio's version of his instrument does Thor a little better. You see, thunder chiefly occupies the frequency spectrum from 20-120 hertz. Thor's Hammer (the subwoofer) was designed to play down to 15 hertz.

The long-throw design of the WATCH Dog's 12.5" woofer led the way to the dual 15" long-throw woofers created for Thor's Hammer. The physical challenge with large drivers is to restrict cone excursions to a single-plane, piston-like movement. (Any out-of-plane vectors generate distortion.) Wilson's ingenious dual-spider cone design allows Thor's Hammer to achieve the kind of distortion specs that one expects from amplifiers, not loudspeakers.

This Hammer is no blunt instrument. It has additional versatility when used with the optional Wilson Controller crossover. Thor's Hammer stands proud (at 59 inches it can also be used horizontally) as a worthy complement to any floor-standing Wilson loudspeaker, including the Alexandria Series 2. In terms of speed, dynamic range, and freedom from distortion, Thor's Hammer will seamlessly extend the performance of your system into the thrilling nether-octaves that are both heard and felt.
