You could ask the same thing about tv, yet everyone pays for cable or satellite, except for a very few that still uses an antenna. I'll even bet that you have cable or satellite? Even satellite programming was free when it first came out. If you bought the equipment that could get the signal from the sky, the signal was free. Not any more. They discovered that people would pay for it, so they started charging.............the rest is history.
People would rather listen to crappy mp3 music, than to high quality sacd or dvd-audio music discs. Shoot, they'd rather listen to mp3 than cds, and especially vinyl albums. I, personally, prefer vinyl albums over cds. But, sacd and dvd-audio is outstanding, especially the multi-channel discs.
