Karen Sandler, a lawyer at the Software Freedom Law Center and part time DJ, and Michael Tarantino, a Grammy-nominated sound engineer, wanted a musical wedding invitation. Rather than the typical annoying musical card, they chose to go old school - vinyl. More specifically, the musical part of the invitation is on a "flexi disc", a thin, flexible vinyl sheet with a molded-in spiral stylus groove.
The rest of the invitation can be folded into a paper hand driven turntable, and if the disc is turned at roughly 45rpm, an original song by the couple can be heard. For a bit more fidelity, the flexi disc will work on an actual record player. Follow the link for a video of the invitation in action.
