Default Mp4 dead?

It never made such a big bang as mp3, but with most of us using other video formats is mp4 still alive and kicking or do you see it wither away like the 8-track?

I think it's alive and well, if I'm not mistake videos downloaded from ITunnes are in this format and it's also very popular in the file sharing community from what I gathered.

remember mp4 as far as I'm aware is a video format, so cannot really be compared to mp3 which is an audio format. So one isn't really taking over from the other.

I wasn't comparing it to the mp3 format, I was just saying it wasn't that huge of a hit as the mp3 format. I was asking if it's still being used as most of the compressed videos I have seen were in xvid.

It's not dead it's just not that widely spread out like aac, but most portable video players use mp4 so I still see a a bright future fro them, now why would somebody want to watch a movie on a 3 inch screen, that's a howl other question.

I have an MP4 player that I use to watch episodes of TV that I miss quite a bit. Although I have to admit he screen is a bit small to watch it for too long.
