doremi Technology is the first thing to get dated there is no question about it, the only way you get your money back on it is if it's rare and becomes a collectors item, but if we would be put of buying because of that fact we'd still be using the steam engine.

jvc I remember when VCRs became available to the public. JC Penney had two brands to sell, both were top loading. They had the Sony BetaMax for $1250, and an RCA VHS for $1000. A friend of mine bought the RCA. With the purchase, he could pick two movies from a list, and receive them in the mail. He chose M.A.S.H. and Vanishing Point. We wore those movies out watching them over and over. There were no movie rental stores back then, and the movies were $80-$90 each, to buy them. So, we watched them over and over. BetaMax actually had better sound and picture, but VHS eventually won out because the blank tapes had longer recording times. How times have changed.........

Othello I quite agree with you neutron. My first VHS was over 500, and now you can't get them anymore, I suppose DVD players will eventually go the same way and in turn the blue-rays.
What will we be having then I wonder?

neutron Well dvd's have been around for 13 years almost going on 14, Blu-rays for 4-5 years. I remember back when you couldn't buy a DVD player for under 200 bucks, now they from that at you for 30, I expect the same will happen slowly with Blu-Ray's. The more you produce the cheaper they become.

jvc There was an article awhile back that said blu rays outsold dvds in the same time period.
Meaning, from the time that dvds became available, up to the first year (I think), in that same time period for blu rays (from the time that they became available, up to the first year), the blu rays outsold dvds. Of course, dvds have been around a lot longer now, so there are many more of them. But blu ray players actually caught on with the public quicker than dvds did.

Blu ray movies are selling pretty well too, I think. Though it's not me buying many. I have over a 1000 dvds, but only 42 blu ray movies. That number will rise a little by Christmas...........

scratch Blu-Ray's never really caught one as much as DVD's did, but when the new technologies appear price's will surely drop to accommodate the market and that might result in an upsurge for Blu-Ray's, who knows.

Darcy Gosh, I don't even have a blue-ray player, I have only just got used to DVD'S. My favourite films are still showcased as videos. Not sure what I will do when the player breaks down. I suppose somewhere there is someone who can fix them.

Re: Replacement for Blu-Ray

I personally don't own a Blu-Ray player so I'm not too sure. I keep hearing that soon there will be no need for DVDs or Blue-Ray etc, because everything is going to be on memory chips. I'm not sure though.
