Let me first say that I REJOICED when I stumbled on this site and found all the great pictures posted by Joe for the ESP Project 101 Mos-Fet amp. I've just ordered the boards (not yet arrived) and was looking for folks who'd already built it.
Now, the seemingly sticky issue of locating the transistors and other goodes without getting one's throat ripped out. My searches up and down the net this past week have been enlightening. It REALLY gets interesting when you follow-up with phone calls. You tell them why you're looking for certain parts and they think you must have big bucks because you're interested in clean music reproduction. The hemming and hawing begins, and the price heads for the roof.
A good example was my search for the much touted Siemens Sikorel capacitors. If I could buy 72 they could be had for about $15.00 each. BUUUUUTTTT...six 10Kuf cans would cost me $1,600!!!!
Oh well...guess it'll be Sprague for the caps...unless someone knows of something better in that price range (well under $200 from Newark).
A question about the transistors:
Elliott says he uses Exicon ECX10N20 and ECX10P20. But on the Profusion site, they're listed as ECX10N20R & ECX10P20R.
Since I'm a newbie to amplifier
building, I don't understand the "R" designation.
Also surprised that Profusion offers them at less than half the price of several stateside suppliers. And with VERY reasonable postage and handling, it's far cheaper to buy from the UK.
